Family Dinner
A Student Made Film
About:
Written by Haiden Sunny, a Creative Writing major at Georgia State University, this powerful short film unfolds over the course of a family dinner, where a son and daughter grapple with the impossible task of parenting their own mother.
At its core, this film explores parentification—a form of role reversal where children are forced to take on adult responsibilities, often emotionally or financially supporting their parents instead of receiving the care they need. According to the National Alliance for Caregiving, an estimated 1.4 million children in the U.S. experience this dynamic.
This project aims to shine a light on the unseen burden carried by these children, emphasizing the toll it takes on their mental health, emotional development, and connection to a carefree childhood.
